Fun outdoor activities to do in Omis:

One of the most thrilling things to do in Omis is white water rafting. The Cetina River runs through the town and its rapids offer some of the best white water rafting in the region. The river winds through the stunning Cetina Canyon, which is a natural wonder in itself. As you navigate the rapids, you'll be surrounded by towering cliffs and lush greenery, creating an unforgettable experience.

White water rafting is just one of the many outdoor activities available in Omis. Whether you're into hiking, kayaking, or simply enjoying the sun on one of the town's beautiful beaches, there's something for everyone here. The town's location on the coast also makes it a perfect spot for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.

There are a few companies operating a rafting experience I chose The Pirate Rafting and I can rate them highly! Click on the link to go to their website or check them out on TripAdvisor.

Omis is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, thanks to its reputation as a hub for outdoor activities. It's easy to see why - the town's stunning natural beauty and wide range of activities make it a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an active travel experience. And with so many fun outdoor activities, it's easy to see why Omis is quickly becoming a top spot for tourism.

If you're planning a trip to Croatia, make sure to add Omis to your itinerary. I loved the vibe of the place and the nature, the white water rafting was fun and I got to meet some great people. Just know white water rafting is a team sport so you are forced to work together, the rapids aren't really for the adrenaline junky - thrill seeker types but still great fun and family-friendly.

Into the cave (The Cetina River)

Halfway through the river rafting journey, our team jumped out into the river as instructed as we had to take a detour around what would have been a steep drop – waterfall. The guides navigated the boats downstream as we headed into a cave to find our way through a mountain pass.

This pass went into a cave filled with running water coming from the top of the mountain, which means this water has never felt the warmth of the sun, which means it was unbelievably cold. I bet you can guess what we had to do to cross this mountain pass.

Before you think we were duped into this savagery by the sadistic guides, we weren’t, of course, we had fair warning further upstream, nevertheless that was not enough to prepare for the cold we were about to plunge into.

And by the way, the guides were lovely too.

So we went one by one, the reaction to the cold was enough to elicit sheer terror upon the next person in line but still one by one we plunged into the freezer. Once out, my team and I walked safely along the mountain walls gripping onto hanging rope and using the designated stepping stones to find our way onto flat land and near the river bed. Here our guides were pleased to meet us in one piece so we could continue the rafting and head further downstream to the finish line.

This experience made me look into cold water therapy and the benefits of it. The term cold plunging is becoming more and more popular and rightly so. If you haven’t heard about cold water therapy, immersion, or plunging and the benefits of it then the (quite eccentric) Wim Hof method is a 'plunge into the deep end' for further enlightenment on the subject – which also includes breathing techniques.

How to get from Split to Omis?

Getting from Split to Omis is a relatively easy and straightforward process. There are several transportation options available, including buses and taxis. The most convenient and cost-effective way to travel is by bus, this is what I did and I'd recommend it. There are frequent services running throughout the day from the main bus station in Split. The journey takes around 30 minutes and offers stunning views of the coastline. Alternatively, taxis can also be hired from Split, although they can be more expensive. With reliable and accessible transportation options, getting from Split to Omis is a hassle-free experience.

How long should I stay in Omis?

The length of time you should stay in Omis really depends on what you want to see and experience during your visit. If you're interested in exploring the town and its surroundings and taking part in outdoor activities such as white water rafting, hiking, and kayaking, then 2-3 days should be enough time. This will give you ample time to experience the best of what Omis has to offer. I did a day trip from Split which for me was enough but an extra day would have been nice to explore the town.

Final thoughts on Omis

If a trip to Croatia is potentially on the cards this summer (it should be!) then I'd suggest visiting the main cities one of which is Split; from here Omis is only a 30-minute bus ride away. With reliable transportation options and accessible accommodations, Omis is a hassle-free destination to add to your travel list. A 2-3 day visit should be enough to experience the best that Omis has to offer. Don't miss out on this charming town on the Adriatic Coast for your next adventure.
