Cyprus, an island steeped in mythology and history, beckons with its warm Mediterranean climate in November. With temperatures around 21°C (70°F) on average but often *much higher, it's a superb time to explore the island's many facets. Visit the ancient city of Paphos, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to uncover archaeological wonders like the Tombs of the Kings and intricate mosaics. North Cyprus is a unique and culturally rich region. While not internationally recognized, it offers an authentic experience. The city of Kyrenia (Girne), with its picturesque harbour and historical sites, is a highlight. Travellers to North Cyprus can enjoy the warmth of the Mediterranean climate and explore a less-visited part of the island. Famagusta, another gem in the crown of North Cyprus, boasts a rich history and stunning architecture. Explore the ancient city walls, visit the historic Othello Castle, and take a stroll through the charming old town. Famagusta's historical significance and its well-preserved heritage make it a compelling destination for history enthusiasts.

*At the time of writing this post (beginning of November) currently in Cyprus myself, I have not seen a day yet where the temperature dropped below 27 Celsius. It’s worth noting that when average temperatures are displayed they take into account the whole island and that includes the temperatures at the top of the mountains!

Malta, with its Mediterranean charm and pleasant November climate, is a historical and cultural treasure trove. The island's unique blend of influences from various civilizations is evident in its architecture, cuisine, and traditions. Don't miss the opportunity to try local specialties like pastizzi (flaky pastries filled with ricotta or peas) and explore the medieval city of Mdina. November offers a quieter and more authentic experience, as you can immerse yourself in Maltese culture without the hustle and bustle of the summer crowds.

I was in Malta at the beginning of September, and it was still baking hot. I stayed in Sliema which was very charming with a bustling nightlife. I found a very affordable apartment with Booking.com in the heart of the town, follow the link for more. I also have to mention the island of Gozo was a unique place that was great to see with historical sites.

Gozo is only a 20-minute ferry trip from the north of Malta, once you arrive I suggest hiring a car to see the island, especially if you are only there for the day. I say car over scooter or moped because some of the roads are steep and can be dangerous if you are not an experienced rider.

Travel Tips for Visiting Europe in November

Something to think about before heading to these warm November destinations is that there are likely to be limited activity hours and dates. It's essential to note that while November brings serenity, it can also bring adjustments to the local schedule. Some destinations may have reduced hours or limited dates for certain activities, restaurants could be closed for the winter. It's wise to plan ahead and check the availability of attractions and services during your stay.

As you prepare to embark on your European adventure in November, embrace the tranquillity, savour the warmth, and relish the charm of destinations that, during this slower month, reveal their true character without the crowds. Whether you're a solo traveller seeking solitude or a couple in search of romantic hideaways, Europe has much to offer in the heart of autumn.

Bring more layers

Yes, these destinations may be warmer than the rest of Europe in November but that’s not to say to expect it to be boiling, as it likely won’t be. Bring layers, especially for the nights as temperatures can surprisingly plummet in these colder months.

I recently posted a blog on 99 Gifts for the Travel Lover and one of the gifts mentioned was a down jacket. I think bringing something like this would be a wise choice for these types of breaks.

Book transportation in advance

As mentioned before some activities and services may be reduced in the quieter months. This could also include taxi services. Instead of relying on grabbing a taxi when you arrive only to realise that there are none around, arranging airport transfers should be on your list before you leave. There are many sites that offer transfers Viator is one of them, follow the link for more.
