4. Steamboat Springs - Strawberry Hot Springs

This is the one that surprised me the most as I had never heard of Steamboat before arriving in Colorado, but now I'm glad I have.

First of all, I need to mention that Colorado is full of hot spring areas to visit. Strawberry Hot Springs just happens to be in an area that boasts some incredible scenery.

It's a lively town, known mainly for its skiing in the winter months but also for its year-round hot springs and natural beauty. When the snow melts, the area really comes alive. The Yampa River invites kayakers, rafters, and tubers to navigate its currents, while hiking trails unveil the beauty of wildflowers and lush landscapes. It feels like an area with festive spirit even if you don't go to any of the events or festivals.

There's a spectacular waterfall – Fish Creek Falls, that is worth visiting with a hiking/walking trail too. But be warned the mosquitoes here were truly out for blood. If you're the one in your group that gets the bulk of the mosquito bites then I can relate, if I were you I would get some mosquito repellent - deet free, before going on this trail.

3. Poudre River Canyon - Kayaking & Rafting

Now here is something truly exhilarating. For beginners and experts alike. Kayaking offers a unique perspective of the Poudre River. The rush of the water against your kayak's hull and the thrill of maneuvering through challenging currents create an experience that's as immersive as it is adrenaline-pumping.

White water rafting down the Poudre River's rapids is a symphony of amazing fun and nature's raw power. This and kayaking is something I really want to get good at, I tried white water rafting in Omis, Croatia but that was more serene than exhilarating. On this river, these sports are dangerous at times, depending on where on the Poudre River you start and finish.

Each twist and turn brings a level of excitement all while taking in the stunning vistas of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.

2. Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park is simply a must-visit location in Colorado. It's a slice of pristine wilderness and natural beauty. The national park is fun and exciting but not in a thrill-seeking way like some on this list. Instead, the park dishes out a range of enjoyable escapades that won't have you signing any extreme waiver forms.

From the tranquil shores of Emerald Lake to the vibrant town of Grand Lake, the park's array of lakes presents an inviting canvas for adventure and relaxation.

The summer brings in the crowds so if you go on the weekend then expect long queues. Remember to book your time in advance to enter the park, these time slots can go very quickly, in fact, your best bet is to set an alarm for when the time slots become available at 5 pm the day prior. Just to clarify, if you are looking to go on Saturday, you will need to book your time slot on Friday as soon as they become available (at 5 pm). Off-peak usually has time slots available, especially during the week.

Be sure to drive on the Trail Ridge road, it's the highest paved road in all the national parks in America so you get some pretty spectacular views.

Colorado's ski resorts are like playgrounds for winter enthusiasts, offering much more than just pristine powder. Take a journey to renowned spots like Aspen, Breckenridge, Telluride, and Vail, and you'll find that these resorts aren't just about the slopes; they're about crafting a winter experience that's as unforgettable as it is fun.

The rivers here are great for fly fishing.

This is the Gymsy Traveller after all. The good news for my fellow fitness freaks is that there is an abundance of gyms to choose from in Colorado.
