From 9 to 5 to Living the Dream: How Quitting My Job, Catching the Travel Bug, and Freelancing Changed My Life Forever

Main Page Image

Welcome, bienvenue and willkommen. Join me on my journey of enlightenment – or travel and exercise as I like to call it. Below is a little introduction and recent back story that enabled me to start living out my dreams (aka financial doom ahead!).

I know, I know another blogger/vlogger talking about quitting their job and writing about it but who's to say this won't help someone? Especially if they're in a similar position and freaking out or don't have much of a backup plan.

The majority of us want to do it, but the majority of those never will, or maybe it'll be really far down the line. Cue regret.

Many of you want to leave your job but fear leaving a job without another lined up. I am not here to tell you what to do before you decide to quit if that is what you're gearing towards.

Look, I would never tell someone to leave their job and some really can't, with all the responsibilities that need to be adhered to, it's not an easy decision to make, but I did it and I didn’t save millions in order to do it either, I just hope that at the very least that those who are contemplating it, for now, you can live vicariously through me.

I have travelled to many countries and at times it is all I really want to do, I'm a self-made hedonist. Due to my love for the gym, my lengthy stays, and lengthy itineraries, I tend to achieve an activity-packed trip. Most people who have joined me on my getaways have said that they never have quite the same experience again.

I am just a man sharing my travel experiences with a slight twist and I hope it can resonate with and help like-minded individuals as travelling becomes easier (especially for digital nomads) and working online becomes almost a necessity.

Train station in Snowdon, Wales

So, first stop, Wales, why Wales? I live in London, England and I have recently taken up hiking (more on this to come) after visiting the Lake District and climbing Scafell Pike (England's highest peak) I got the itch to do the UK's three peaks. Snowdon in Wales is one of them and second on my list.

To read more on what to expect hiking as a beginner in Snowdonia follow this link.

The climb was fantastic, it wasn't as gruelling as Scafell Pike but definitely had some challenging parts. The weather was mild and the vibe was light-hearted.

But was it what I was looking for after the life-changing decision of quitting a job where travelling was restricted to my annual leave? Was it the sense of freedom I was desiring or looking for?

Not really.

Wales was nice, really nice, and different from England (drive-through farm products!!) I would for sure visit again, although disclaimer: my hay fever was the worst ever. The trip made me realise I needed to get away from the UK, as I, like many others around the world, had been stuck in the same country/island during the crazy times of lockdowns and pandemic that seem like a distant memory now.

As an avid traveller I wanted out.

What I really needed was sun and sand – well pebbles to be more precise. My next stop was Croatia and what a stop it was.
